So, the first week is done!

(But don’t feel like you can’t join in still and/or catch up!).

The collection of photos coming in are great, and we can’t wait to see what’s in future! Don’t forget to add them to the Flickr group (preferred) or Facebook group!

For those wondering, we have all kinds of things planned for themes — from abstract ideas (like the themes for the first three weeks), to colours, to props, to techniques and styles. We want to teach and people to learn, and we want to band together to encourage each other through the challenge!

Each week, Kevin and Peter will choose a couple of their favourite submissions to highlight. There’s no prize for it, just our admiration. And that’s worth something, surely?

First up, Kevin’s favourites:

Susan S: Week 1

Susan S: Week 1

I love the simple elegance of this shot. Black and white adds a bit of poignancy to the atmosphere, the square crop an effective choice. -K

Barbara Nicholas: Week 1

One word: wow. Beautiful concept, focus and lighting. Fantastic interpretation of the theme. Love! -K

And Peter’s choices:

Veronica Brownie: Week 1

Veronica Brownie: Week 1

There is something so carefree, fun and joyous about this image, leaving behind the past and venturing into the unknown of the future. Plus, snow! I’m from Australia… I’ve never seen snow. -P

I know Kev already highlighted this image, but it was an instant favourite. Ignoring the theme, ignoring the selfie-challenge, it’s an incredibly strong image. The tone, lighting, focus and composition are all spot-on, and it appeals to my love of low-key photos. Just stunning. -P

So, what’s next?

Right now for Week 2 we have “Kin.” Be it blood or family by choice, what is your kin, how does it make you who you are, where do you come from?

For Week 3, our theme is “Uncovered.” That’s not an invitation to disrobe and bare all! Far from it! We want you to explore something more metaphorical or environmental. Discover something about yourself or the place you live, reveal the truth and share it with us. What can you come up with? Because, right now, we still have our thinking caps on…

Keep in mind the ‘rules‘ and have fun this week!
