I’m a writer. I’m a photographer. I don’t like soup.
Peter hates writing in third person, but keeps devising and taking on projects that require him to write bios. He is a writer, photographer, website manager, social media guy, movie reviewer, semi-serious competitive gamer, academic, and, when he has time, a lover of live music, bad movies, and a drinker of good beers, fine wines and Bundy (or whatever else is put in front of him). He has an abnormal (though entirely logical) hatred of soup.
He graduated with his Master of Philosophy (English) degree in 2014, in which he applies sociological theories on the influence of place on the individual and the connection between place and portrayals of self to Australian pub fiction. He also wrote a collection of short stories, Overflow, which he hopes to publish someday. He is also a published poet, short story writer, essayist, photographer, and has written for DigitalRev and DIYPhotography among other publications.
VOTogs is his second major project that takes up his time. He is also the co-founder of SWAMP, an international online publication for postgraduate Creative Writers, with which he is still involved. He is also a co-creator of the Christmas On Acacia project, which raises money for the Cancer Council NSW. He also does social media management for the Newcastle/Hunter/Central Coast region of the Cancer Council NSW.
His kit includes a new Canon 5D Mark III, but then mainly consists of gear on the cheaper end of the scale. His favoured lens is the beautiful Sigma 35mm f/1.4 Arts lens. The only other two lenses that fit the new camera are a 50mm f/1.8 and 85mm f/1.8; his lighting gear includes his beloved Lumopro LP180, along with Yongnou flash units and flash triggers (though, there may be a shift soon); his lighting set ups include, along with a softbox, $3 umbrellas, pieces of core flute, cardboard, bed sheets, car headlights, desk lamps, industrial flood lamps, and, quite often, copious amounts of fire. Massive fan of his 3 Legged Thing Eric(a) and his ThinkTankPhoto bags. Say hello to him on Twitter: @OeterB.
