In Australia, we’re just moving into summer.

If you are a reader from overseas, you may have ideas of what Australia is like in summer. Those stereotypes probably aren’t far from the truth. It means we can spend time at the beach on the hottest days burning our skin to a crisp (though, as a member of the Cancer Council NSW team, I highly recommend you take all necessary means to protect yourself from the sun) and playing cricket on our front footpath during twilight.

It also means some pretty intense dangers, such as snakes, spiders, and the inevitable bushfires.

In NSW over the past couple of weeks, we’ve experienced some of the most intense fires we’ve had in over a decade. Houses and lives have been lost. Thankfully, though, due to the amazing work of the fire fighters, much has been saved.

This video clip showing some amazing drone footage of just some of the devastation in one area has recently surfaced. We thought we would share it with you.

To all in fire affected areas, and all the fire fighters and emergency services in the mix, the VOTogs team wish you wellness and safety during these times.

For the latest information on the fires, please visit the NSW RFS (Rural Fire Service) website or the Emergency page on the ABC website.

If you’re feeling trauma due to the NSW bushfires, you can call Lifeline on 13 11 14 anytime 24/7, or chat online from 8pm AEST.

You can make donations to the Salvation Army Bush Fire Appeal at their website or by calling 13 72 58.
